Gagik Tsarukyan's Lawyers to File a Supreme Court Appeal

Gagik Tsarukyan's lawyers will file a Supreme Court appeal. This was announced by lawyer Emin Khachatryan, who noted that they are contesting the decision to send the case back to the first instance court for a new trial. The information comes from NEWS.am.

It is worth noting that the Court of Appeal of the Republic of Armenia rejected the appeal filed by the lawyers in this case. The Prosecutor's Office also appealed the first instance court's decision to reject the motion for pretrial detention for Gagik Tsarukyan, demanding that the decision be overturned and Tsarukyan be detained. This was partially upheld.

Recall that Tsarukyan's defense team had submitted several appeals to the Court of Appeal, one of which concerns reasonable suspicion. The defense team contends that there is no evidence presented to the court that would substantiate Tsarukyan's involvement in this criminal case. Another appeal relates to the legality of the proceedings, which, according to the defenders, should have initially been examined by the Special Investigation Service, rather than the National Security Service.

It should be noted that Gagik Tsarukyan has been charged under Article 154.2 of the RA Criminal Code (receiving bribes from candidates, parties (party alliances), or referendum campaign initiatives, or giving bribes to voters by candidates, parties (party alliances), or referendum campaign initiatives, or obstructing the fulfillment of the voter's free will). He does not accept the charges against him and considers them illegal.
