Protesters Storm Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building in Beirut
Participants of the protest action that began on Saturday in Beirut have stormed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, where police have gathered to negotiate with the protesters.
According to Al Jazeera, the protesters burned a portrait of the country's president, Michel Aoun, and declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building their headquarters.
The entire city center of the Lebanese capital has turned into a battleground between special forces and activists. It has been reported that the leader of the opposition Kataeb party, Sami Gemayel, called for the mass demonstration. It is worth noting that the Secretary General of the Kataeb party, Nazar Najarian, was also killed during the explosion that occurred in Beirut.
According to the Lebanese Red Cross, 142 people were injured during Saturday's protests, with 32 hospitalized and others receiving treatment on site. Russian news agency TASS, citing Al-Hadath TV, reported that gunfire was heard during the demonstration, resulting in the death of a security personnel.
The explosion destroyed much of the buildings in Beirut, including many homes of Armenians living near the port. More than 300,000 people have been left homeless, over 6,000 have been injured, and 158 have died. Dozens of people are still considered missing.
