EU to Provide €80,000 in Aid to Gyumri Affected by Hailstorm and Flood

The European Union is extending a helping hand to the residents affected by the hailstorm and flood that struck the northwestern part of Armenia in July 2020. The devastating hailstorm and subsequent flooding have caused significant damage to residential houses and infrastructure in the city of Gyumri.

In response to this situation, the European Union is allocating €80,000 in humanitarian aid to support the most affected residents. With this funding, the EU is supporting the Red Cross to provide essential humanitarian assistance, including cash support that will help the most vulnerable residents meet their basic needs.

Directly benefiting from the humanitarian aid will be 2,670 individuals whose personal belongings were damaged and homes destroyed due to the hailstorm and subsequent floods. The disaster has affected 1,000 families, 600 of whom are still living in trailer homes constructed as "temporary shelters" following the devastating earthquake in 1988.
