Death Toll from Beirut Explosion Reaches 149

The death toll from the explosion in Beirut has reached 149, according to reports from the Lebanese newspaper L'Orient-Le Jour, which cites sources in the country's Ministry of Health.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the number of injured exceeds 5,000, with dozens still considered missing. Previously, reports indicated 145 fatalities.

It is recalled that a powerful explosion rocked the port of Beirut the day before. Preliminary investigation data suggest that the explosion began in the port warehouses and reached a storage of ammonium nitrate, which subsequently exploded and ignited.

Buildings even kilometers away were damaged as a result. The blast has affected all sectors of business in the capital. A day of mourning was declared in the capital on August 5, and a state of emergency has been imposed until August 18.

Among the victims of the explosion are also Armenian nationals, with the latest reports indicating six casualties. The names of five of them are known: Nazar Najaryan, Jessica Bejyan, Telya Papazyan, Jacques Baramakyam, and Varoujan Tohsounyan.
