Dispute Between Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Catholicos Leads to Meeting
'Zhoghovourd' newspaper reports that recently, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonian, had a meeting with His Holiness Catholicos Garegin II. According to our sources, the reason for this meeting was that tensions had been escalating between Garegin II and Alen Simonian for several months. This tension arose from a statement made by the Catholicos several months ago.
The situation dates back to April 14 of this year when Catholicos Garegin II stated that he deemed it important to change the measure of restraint for Robert Kocharyan. His remark stirred considerable controversy among representatives of the ruling power, prompting even a response from the spokesperson for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Mane Gevorgyan.
It appears that during this period, there had also been remote disputes between the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Catholicos, leading to a lack of communication over recent months. The recent meeting was aimed at reconciling their differences.
'Zhoghovourd' newspaper attempted to confirm the details with Deputy Speaker Alen Simonian, who acknowledged the meeting but declined to provide further details.
