Man Holds Knife to Police Officer's Neck While Brother Attempts to Strike with Stone
The investigation is underway at the Ararat Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee to clarify all circumstances of violence committed by two brothers against police officers in Artashat.
According to a report from the Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Investigative Committee, on August 2, 2020, at 18:15, a resident of Artashat called the Operational Management Center of the Yerevan Police and reported that her acquaintance was beating her and breaking the door of her house. An operational group from the Artashat Police immediately went to the scene.
Noticing the approaching police officers, the man held a kitchen knife to his neck and threatened to harm himself. Police officers managed to convince him and escorted him to the police station. While walking to the Artashat Police station with the knife still at his neck, he suddenly attacked the officers with the knife, injuring a senior inspector of the Police's Special Patrol Service in the right leg as they tried to disarm him. At the same time, his brother attempted to assault the officers with a stone but was unable to hit anyone as the police officers subdued him.
As a result of the incident, a criminal case was initiated based on Article 316, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code at the Ararat Regional Investigative Department. The two brothers from Artashat have been arrested on suspicion of using violence against representatives of the authorities.
Throughout the preliminary investigation, several investigative actions have been undertaken, including an examination of the crime scene, during which the weapon used in the crime was recovered, surveillance footage was reviewed, eyewitnesses were questioned, and a forensic medical examination was appointed. The investigation is ongoing, and investigative and procedural actions are being taken to ensure a comprehensive, objective, and thorough examination of the case.
