Criminal Case Launched After Explosion Near Tavush Berd Police Department Administrative Building

The Tavush regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation to clarify all circumstances surrounding the explosion that occurred near the administrative building of the Tavush regional police department in Berd.

On August 2, 2020, around 04:00, an unknown individual carried out an explosion using an illegally held explosive device in the area of the "Tsaghkanoj" park behind the administrative building of the Berd police department, causing damage to the walls of the police building and shattering the windows of the offices, resulting in significant property damage.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated at the Tavush regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee under Article 185 (intentional destruction or damage to property) part 2 and Article 235 (illegal acquisition, sale, possession, transportation or carrying of weapons, military ammunition, explosives or explosive devices) part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation, an examination of the scene was conducted, during which a grenade ring and its constituent part were found. The investigation is ongoing.

In order to clarify significant circumstances of the criminal case, forensic explosive, forensic and construction technical examinations have been appointed. Measures are being taken to determine the source of acquisition of the military ammunition and to identify and apprehend the person who committed the apparent crime. Instructions have been given to the investigative body.
