Concrete Has Covered the Section of Mashtots Park for Which People Fought During Previous Governments: Lala Mnayan
Director of the "House of Life" NGO cultural center, Lala Mnayan, wrote on her Facebook page: "Last night, Mariam and I went to Mashtots Park for reconnaissance. It is very sad to see how a part of the park has been covered with concrete, for which people of all ages and viewpoints fought for months during the previous administrations. Yerevan has become a mixed conglomerate of concrete, asphalt, and glass. It turns out that what saves us from the heat of the Ararat Plain is not the trees and gardens, but rather the heat-reflecting concrete and tiles.
And it also turns out that instead of trees and green areas that provide coolness, today we only need coffee shops and restaurants. Trees in the park have been cut down, walls have been erected, and the ground has been concreted. The obsession with money has gripped people so tightly that instead of planting trees and bushes, establishing parks, and creating fresh air opportunities, they think only of building high-rise buildings and opening shops and cafes.
Who has permitted the construction on the park's territory and the cutting of thick trees? They talk about the cut trees being of lesser value to the city. But how many hundred poplars and mulberries have they planted that they now have the right to remove these trees? Using the type of tree as an excuse cannot be justified, as a park should remain a park and not be turned into a café.
Someone should find a way to tell the mayor: 'Dear, this is not beautiful, especially after the revolution.'"
