Some Historians Are Terrified and Even Preparing to Turn to the NSS: Haik Demoyan

Haik Demoyan, former director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and a Doctor of Historical Sciences, has reported that several historian colleagues are terrified and even preparing to appeal to the National Security Service (NSS) regarding the substantial and conceptual aspects of the new criteria and sample programs proposed for teaching the subjects of Armenian History, World History, and Social Studies.

In a post on his Facebook page, he stated, “To the historians waking from slumber, as a reminder: Several historian colleagues have been thoroughly horrified and are even preparing to contact the NSS... For now, I will say this much: You, ladies and gentlemen, were silent when Tsitsernakaberd was handed over with the same Turkish funds and various projects to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia. You were silent because you preferred adaptability and fear rather than the courage to acknowledge your share of the blame for voting in favor of those same individuals.”

Demoyan criticized the selective attention given to ongoing acts of treachery, stating that as a result of this passive stance, the educational system and the future of Armenia is currently under serious threat. “I am confident that all of your professional instincts and knowledge are fully sufficient to understand and realize that we are living through perhaps the most critical period in the life of our nation and state,” he emphasized. “Yes, a large-scale and deep-seated assault has been launched against our state and people, with the primary aim of distorting our identity and historical memory. Find your role in this struggle and set aside individual and group interests and squabbles... Anyone who loses this battle will also be considered a traitor...”
