Russia Opens Border with Abkhazia from Today; Air Traffic with Turkey to Resume

Russia is opening its border with Abkhazia on August 1. This information was reported by the operational headquarters for combating the spread of coronavirus. The meeting of the headquarters was chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova.

The decision to open the border with Abkhazia was made based on an assessment of the sanitary-epidemiological situation, according to the conclusions from Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health.

It is worth recalling that a decision was previously made to restore air traffic with Great Britain, Turkey, and Tanzania. Aleksey Zaytsev, Deputy Head of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that the restoration of air traffic with other countries is also being considered in the near future, provided that these countries meet certain criteria—no more than 40 infected people per 100,000 population in the last 14 days and a daily growth rate of infections not exceeding one percent.
