Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtchyan, Brutally Beaten 10 Months Ago, Transferred to Hospital Room

Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtchyan, who has been in a coma for 10 months following a brutal beating in Yeghegnadzor, has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a hospital room. This was reported to NEWS.am by his brother, Karen Mkrtchyan, who mentioned that their mother will now care for him in the hospital room.

“My brother continues to remain in a coma; they simply turned off the equipment and transferred him to a hospital room so that our mother can stay and take care of him. We do not wish to transfer him home yet, as we are concerned that his condition may worsen. At least he will be under the doctors' supervision,” he said.

It is worth noting that a separate part of this case has already been sent to court, but no trial date has been set yet.

Previously, it was reported that on September 18, 2019, Ara Mkrtchyan was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state with a preliminary diagnosis of “medium-grade contusion of the right hemisphere of the brain, subdural hematoma in the right temporal-parietal-frontal lobe region with significant tension-lateral dislocation,” and underwent emergency surgery.

A criminal case was initiated regarding the incident under the first part of Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
