COVID-19 Vaccine Trials Commence in Italy

In Rome, staff at the Lazaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases have begun human trials for a coronavirus vaccine. According to TACC, this vaccine had previously been successfully tested on mice.

As part of the clinical trials, 45 volunteers under the age of 55 will receive the vaccine. If the trial proves successful, the medication will later be tested on volunteers aged 65-75.

Francesco Vaia, the chief physician at the institute, believes that the Italian coronavirus vaccine could be released for sale next year. After the completion of the volunteers' tests, the vaccine must receive approval from the Higher Health Institute and the Italian Medicines Agency. The pharmaceutical company ReiThera is planning to handle the mass production of the drug.

It is also noted that earlier reports indicated that the American biotechnology company Moderna plans to sell its coronavirus vaccine for approximately $50-60 USD.
