As Summer Nears Its End, Will Senior Officials Take a Break?
As summer draws to a close with just one month left, many in Armenia are not even thinking about a vacation, especially following the extended lockdown. Vacationing abroad has become an unrealistic dream for everyone this year. Even the resorts in Georgia are inaccessible for both ordinary citizens of Armenia and officials alike.
Sputnik Armenia decided to find out whether senior officials plan to take a vacation, and if so, where they intend to go.
The president's office informed us that considering the border tensions and the situation created by the coronavirus pandemic, President Armen Sarkissian does not plan to go on holiday.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is not on vacation, and there are no plans for one. His press secretary, Mane Gevorgyan, stated that Pashinyan continues to perform his duties.
Regarding the holiday plans of the Prime Minister's wife, Anna Hakobyan, her press secretary Hasmik Harutyunyan noted that no decision has been made yet.
Deputy Prime Minister and state of emergency chief Tigran Avinyan has not planned a vacation either. How could he relax when a state of emergency is declared in the country until August 12, and it might be extended? It appears that Avinyan will not take vacation until the epidemic situation in the country improves.
Parliament Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan also lacks time to relax, even though the parliament, in effect, went on holiday from July 21. His assistant, David Karapetyan, mentioned that Mirzoyan continues to work actively, and there have been no discussions about vacation.
The leader of the opposition “Enlightened Armenia” faction, Edmon Marukyan, has also not determined his relaxation plans.
In contrast, Lilit Makunts, the leader of the “My Step” faction, has decided to stay home and go nowhere.
The media could not get in touch with Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the “Prosperous Armenia” faction; however, considering the ongoing criminal prosecution against him, it is unlikely he can travel far.
Unlike everyone else, the Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, has opted not to postpone his vacation. After taking a week off in March, he has taken another holiday this week, excluding a two-week self-isolation due to contact with coronavirus-infected individuals.
