Violence Against Police Officers: Criminal Case Launched
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia is conducting an inquiry in the Lori Regional Investigative Department to establish the circumstances surrounding a case of violence against two police officers in the city of Vanadzor.
According to preliminary data, on July 28, 2020, at around 18:40, in front of the police administrative building located on Lorva Street in Vanadzor, due to the need to escort a 'Mercedes-Benz' vehicle to a penalty area for driving under the influence and to conduct the necessary legal actions with the driver, he, along with three men, attacked the police officers who are representatives of authority, hitting them with fists and using non-life-threatening violence against them, after which they fled the scene in their vehicles.
On the same day, a criminal case was initiated at the Lori Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee under the features of part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code (use of violence against a representative of authority), and an investigative group has been assigned to conduct the preliminary investigation. A number of investigative and procedural actions have been carried out, the two police officers have been recognized as victims, forensic medical examinations have been appointed, confiscations have been made, and instructions have been issued to the investigative body.
Operational intelligence measures are being undertaken to locate the aforementioned vehicle's driver and the three accomplices. The preliminary investigation continues.
