No Judge Willing to Stand as Candidate for Constitutional Court, Reports "Zhoghovurd"
According to the reports from the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," the judicial system is in a predicament as no judges are willing to stand as candidates for the Constitutional Court. On July 31, a General Assembly of Judges is set to take place, during which, among other agenda items, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council and a candidate for the Constitutional Court are to be elected.
“Zhoghovurd” previously reported that initially, the candidate from the judicial system was Liana Hakobyan, who recently faced competition; however, it is now significant that even Hakobyan no longer wishes to be a candidate. The judicial system is at an impasse as they are unable to determine whom to nominate that would agree to it.
It is noteworthy that there are currently three vacant positions for judges in the Constitutional Court, and elections for these positions are scheduled for the upcoming session starting in September. However, prior to that, nominations need to be made by the government, President Armen Sarkissian, and the General Assembly of Judges, but it becomes clear that they cannot find a suitable candidate.
