Government Discusses Reopening of Educational and Cultural Institutions

Following today’s emergency meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Emergency Situation Command Tigran Avinyan announced that the Armenian government is still uncertain about whether the state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic will be lifted or replaced with a state of emergency.

“The legal regime of the state of emergency will end on August 12. Currently, options for extending the regime or transitioning to a state of emergency are being discussed, and they largely depend on what the epidemiological situation will look like in the near future,” Avinyan stated.

He also noted that the probability of a second wave of coronavirus infection remains uncertain. However, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, the government is developing a new plan for managing the fight against the virus based on lessons learned, aimed at ensuring a return to normal life amid the pandemic.

The government is also considering the possibility of reopening several sectors still under restrictions. Specific safety regulations are being developed for educational and preschool institutions.

Avinyan promised that in the coming days, the government would publish detailed guidelines that, in addition to the aforementioned sectors, will include the conditions necessary for the reopening of museums and libraries.
