Government Allows Commercial Fishing of 200 Tons of Carp

There are 17 biological treatment plants operating at Lake Sevan, and we have about 300 facilities in the coastal areas, said Acting Head of the Nature Protected Areas and Biodiversity Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment, Vahak Grigoryan, during a press meeting. During the conference, the Acting Minister of Environment Vahe Jilavyan also addressed the issue of carp stocks in Lake Sevan.

“By the government’s decision, we have already initiated the first commercial fishing of this year. We have permitted the fishing of 200 tons of carp. We have around 150 applications, and contracts will be signed in the next 10 days. No legal fishing is permitted for any other fish species,” said the spokesperson.
