Court Rejects Civil Suit Against Former Wife of Hachaturyan Killed by Daughters

The Solntsevsky Court in Moscow has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by the relatives of Mikhail Hachaturyan, who was killed by his daughters, against his former wife Aurelia Dunduk for the protection of honor and dignity, demanding compensation of 1 million rubles. This was reported to TASS by the woman’s lawyer, Valentina Frolova.

“The court refused to satisfy the claims aimed at restricting the woman’s rights to recount her experience and the violence she suffered. It is greatly reassuring that, so far, courts have rejected any claim aimed at silencing the woman or forcing her to renounce her statements,” said the lawyer.

The civil suit was filed nearly a year ago. The relatives of Hachaturyan demanded 1 million rubles in moral damages. According to the statement of the lawsuit, Aurelia publicly announced in a show on Channel One's “Actually” program that Mikhail Hachaturyan had subjected her to sexual violence since 1996, resulting in her becoming pregnant and giving birth to their son, Sergey. It was later revealed that Sergey Hachaturyan is not Mikhail’s biological son. Therefore, her television statement does not reflect reality and damages the relatives and the family’s reputation, according to the lawsuit, a copy of which has been made available to TASS.

Mikhail Hachaturyan was killed on July 27, 2018. His three daughters inflicted multiple knife and hammer blows to their father. The investigation established that the motive for the crime was personal animosity arising from long-term inflicted physical and mental suffering. The actions of the daughters were classified by the investigation as murder committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement. Moreover, materials concerning the youngest sister have been separated from the main case, as experts recognized her as insane at the time of the crime. The Investigative Committee insists that medical measures should be applied to her as she requires compulsory treatment. The Moscow Butyrsky Court is set to conduct pre-trial preparations in her case on Tuesday.
