Chaos Within the Government: Efforts to Prevent Vahram Avetisyan's Election from Reaching Parliament
According to the newspaper «Zhoghovourd», the nomination of a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge has created real chaos within the authorities.
According to the information from «Zhoghovourd», the main faction of the government is doing everything possible to prevent the parliamentary discussion of the candidate for the Constitutional Court, Vahram Avetisyan, who has been nominated by the government. Our sources indicate that in these days, within their internal discussions, the legal faction of the authorities is working to persuade Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to withdraw Avetisyan’s candidacy and propose a new candidate for the Constitutional Court judge position. Whether this faction will succeed or not remains uncertain.
Throughout yesterday, «Zhoghovourd» made attempts to verify this information with the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Mane Gevorgyan, but she categorically did not respond to our phone calls. Meanwhile, Nikolay Baghdasaryan, a member of the Parliamentary Commission on State and Legal Affairs, stated when asked about his opinion regarding Vahram Avetisyan’s candidacy for the Constitutional Court judge that he does not wish to comment, and that they will express their position when the time comes for the selection.
