Ministry of Education and Science Presents Draft Revised Literature List for Grades 7-12: Includes Golden Age and Medieval Armenian Literature

The Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia has faced a wave of criticism following the presentation of new standards and curricula for the subjects "Armenian Language" and "Literature." The main concern among the public was related to the reduction of classical Armenian literature, specifically the Golden Age and medieval Armenian literature, in favor of foreign literature and the inclusion of many contemporary Armenian works.

The working group responsible for developing the standards and programs for the subjects "Armenian Language" and "Literature" has issued a statement confirming that the Golden Age and medieval Armenian literature will be included in the educational curriculum.

"Starting from the 5th grade, students will study the works of historians such as Movses Khorenatsi, Agatangeghos, Pavstos Buzand, Yeghishe, and Ghazar Parpetsi, as well as fables of various authors. The curriculum also includes medieval authors such as Grigor Narekatsi, Nerses Shnorhali, Nahapet Kuchak, and Sayat Nova," the statement reads.

The working group continues to refine the program while considering all suggestions and comments from the public. The complete list of literature will be presented following public discussions and revisions made based on feedback.
