Brawl and Stabbing on Teghenik Highway: Criminal Case Initiated

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation to clarify all circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred on Teghenik Highway in the village of Arzakan. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.

On July 22, 2020, at approximately 11:30 PM, a call was received from the "Charentsavan Medical Center" LLC regarding a 22-year-old resident of Arzakan who had been admitted with a penetrating stab wound to the right side of the abdomen, causing muscle damage, acute hemorrhage, and liver damage among other injuries, claiming he had been stabbed.

Additionally, another call was received on the night of July 23 at 01:20 AM from the "Erebuni Medical Center" LLC, reporting that a 28-year-old resident of Arzakan had been admitted with polytrauma, a fracture of the right tibia, and contusions around the eyebrow area, stating he had been beaten.

As a result of immediate measures taken, it was established that the injuries were sustained by the young men around 10:30 PM on July 22, during the same incident on Teghenik Highway in Kotayk Province.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Charentsavan Investigative Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee under Article 112 of the Armenian Criminal Code (causing serious harm to health intentionally). It has been decided to recognize the aforementioned individuals as victims.

Investigators have gathered data indicating that a dispute occurred between two brothers from Arzakan and their fellow villager, which escalated into a brawl, during which the 28-year-old used a knife to inflict wounds on the 22-year-old village resident.

During the pre-trial investigation, several investigative actions have been conducted, including an on-site examination where blood-like traces were discovered, collection of samples, blood samples taken from the victims, and the seizure of the clothing worn by the victims at the time of the incident. Forensic chemical and biological examinations have been appointed, and witnesses present at the scene have been interrogated.

During the investigation, the knife used in the crime was presented and confiscated. The 28-year-old has been placed under a signature of non-leaving as a preventive measure.

The investigation is ongoing. Investigative and procedural actions are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, ensure an objective, complete, and comprehensive investigation, and to individualize the actions of each participant involved in the incident, providing a criminal-law assessment.
