Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Meets with Candidates and Their Parents
The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Vahe Enfiajyan, met on July 23 with candidates who participated in university entrance exams, received positive scores, yet were not admitted to their preferred faculties, along with their parents.
This year's university admissions were conducted according to a newly established order, prioritizing the first line of the application concerning free and paid educational positions for selected specialties.
Participants in the meeting noted that the decision to admit based on the first choice has excluded many candidates who achieved high scores from the competition. They suggested discussing the issue of adding extra places in the relevant faculties of the universities, as well as addressing questions related to participation in the competition for specialties declared as the second or third choices.
The Vice Speaker informed that the Prosperous Armenia faction of the National Assembly has been receiving numerous letters and applications lately. According to him, there exists a situation where a candidate who scored high in the exam cannot obtain student status for their chosen specialty.
Vahe Enfiajyan expressed the opinion that legal solutions for the issue could be found. He conveyed to the attendees the conclusion prepared by the experts and lawyers of the faction. Enfiajyan suggested examining the document and taking joint steps towards resolving the matter. He also indicated that he has contacted the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports regarding the issue.
