«Joghvorout». How Many People Left and Did Not Return to Armenia This Year
«Joghvorout» newspaper reports that in the first six months of this year, a total of 8,078 people left Armenia by air and did not return. The newspaper obtained this information from the General Department of Civil Aviation, revealing that from Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport, 280,741 people departed and 273,548 arrived between January and June, resulting in a negative balance of 7,193 individuals who effectively migrated.
Meanwhile, at Shirak Airport in Gyumri during the same period, 14,209 people left and 13,324 returned, with a negative balance of 885 individuals. Thus, air migration in the first six months of this year amounted to 8,078 people.
Another fact to note is that most people are leaving the country via land routes. According to statistics from January to March of this year, more passengers left Armenia by plane than arrived. During that time, 269,072 people departed while 257,639 arrived, which indicates that 11,433 individuals left without returning.
Experts claim that the decrease in the number of arrivals is related to the coronavirus pandemic that has shaken the world, causing many to leave the country but become unable to return due to closed borders.
