Rising Discontent Within Authorities: Discussions on Education Issues Scheduled for Today
The newspaper "Jouhourt" reports: "For several days now, candidates who have not been accepted into higher educational institutions and their parents have been holding protests, with demonstrations even taking place in front of the National Assembly yesterday. However, according to information from "Jouhourt", the circle of protesting individuals is not limited to ordinary citizens; many officials are also outraged, as their children have found themselves in the same situation.
The issue is that there is a new admission procedure for higher educational institutions, which prioritizes the first application. Some candidates have been left out because they did not earn enough points necessary for the first application and could not be admitted to the remaining specified faculties. It has come to our attention that keeping this discontent in mind, the Science, Education, Culture, Sports, Diaspora, and Youth Issues Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia has decided to convene today to discuss the existing situation.
According to the reports from "Jouhourt", representatives of the legislative body have expressed their dissatisfaction that once again, issues in the education sector have arisen, and instead of filling the existing gaps, the situation is becoming more acute. In other words, a revolt is brewing within the authorities themselves.
Moreover, according to our information, representatives from the ministry and the Science and Testing Center will also be present at today’s discussion, to whom the deputies will have numerous questions to address. Additionally, it has been reported that deputies are astonished by how it is possible that there is progress in all other sectors, while scandals in the field of education follow one another.
It was not enough that former rector of the Economic University Ruben Hayrapetyan accused the ministry and made revelations; now a rebellion has also matured among the applicants. This very situation is the reason why deputies are demanding concrete explanations."
