Georgy Lorentsyan's Charges Partially Repealed

The former Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Georgy Lorentsyan, has had part of the charges against him repealed by a decision of the investigator. This information was reported by the 'AM' law firm.

According to the pre-trial investigation of the criminal case, it has not been confirmed that G. Lorentsyan committed abuses of his official powers, which resulted in 'Luard' LLC having the opportunity to present lower price offers and be recognized as the winner in announced competitions. Thus, G. Lorentsyan is no longer charged under Part 1 of Article 308 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Abuse of Official Powers).

The charges filed under Clause 2 of Part 4 of Article 311 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Receiving Particularly Large Bribes) have also been changed. Specifically, G. Lorentsyan was previously charged with accepting a bribe of at least 13,448,880 AMD. According to the revised charge, the amount of the alleged bribe attributed to Mr. Lorentsyan has decreased and now constitutes 2,000,000 AMD.

The 'AM' law firm, represented by lawyer Levon Sahakyan, will continue to defend G. Lorentsyan's interests by all legal means and expects that soon the charges against him will be fully lifted and the former deputy minister's good name will be restored,” the statement reads.
