Soldiers Appeal to the Ministry of Defense to Avoid Discharge; Request Denied

The Ministry of Defense has stated it will not grant the request of soldiers eligible for discharge, and they will be discharged according to the planned schedule.

In response to a question from “Haykakan Zhamanak,” the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Shushan Stepanyan, said that she had previously been informed that all mandatory conscripts eligible for discharge from the 3rd Army Corps had collectively approached their commanders, requesting to suspend discharges and allow them to continue their service alongside their fellow servicemen and commanders, as long as a definitive victory has not been declared and as long as the adversary has intentions of aggression.

“As the Ministry of Defense has stated, there is no need for additional forces. The Armed Forces confidently carry out their tasks, thus discharges and recruitments are proceeding as usual. Of course, we are grateful to the boys, the volunteers for their willingness, we highly appreciate that, but there is no necessity,” Stepanyan explained in our conversation.

She emphasized that soldiers are writing hundreds of requests and reports, asking the command not to return home and to leave their units, but the discharge process is being carried out as planned.
