ICRC Initiates Official Process to Determine the Whereabouts of Missing Resident in Syunik Region: Human Rights Defender
The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Armenia delegation, Clare Maitraux, discussed the case of Narek Sardarjan, a resident of the village of Nerk'in Khndzoresk in the Syunik region, who has gone missing, as well as the situation of Karen Ghazaryan, a resident of Berdavan village in the Tavush region, currently held captive in Azerbaijan.
The Office of the Human Rights Defender is in contact with the family members of Narek Sardarjan. “They informed us that on July 8, after 10:00 AM, Narek went to the pasture near the village of Gorayk in the Syunik region to tend to livestock and did not return. Family members suspect that the young man may have crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border by accident,” stated Tatoyan on his Facebook page.
“The head of the ICRC Armenia delegation informed me today that the Red Cross has launched an official process to clarify the whereabouts of Armenian citizen Narek Sardarjan and has made an inquiry to the ICRC representative office in Azerbaijan (we will also be informed of the results). Details regarding Karen Ghazaryan will be communicated to his parents by the Human Rights Defender's Office. Considering the mandate of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the agreement with the head of the Armenian delegation, I cannot provide further details at this moment; however, we will continue to maintain contact with the ICRC Armenia delegation,” Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page.
