Iran's Position on Nagorno-Karabakh Remains Unchanged: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman

The position of Iran regarding the dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains unchanged. This was stated by the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Mousavi, as reported by the IRNA agency.

Emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and to resolve disputes through peaceful means, Mousavi added, "We believe that the two neighboring countries should resolve their disputes peacefully. The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently declared its readiness to support a resolution to the issue."

It is noteworthy that on July 12, around 12:30 PM, the armed forces of Azerbaijan attempted to violate the state border of Armenia in the Tavush region using a UAZ vehicle. After a warning from the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani servicemen left the UAZ vehicle and returned to their positions. At 1:45 PM on the same day, the armed forces of Azerbaijan repeated their attempt to seize the positional defense of the Armenian armed forces, using artillery fire; however, they were suppressed by the Armenian side and repelled with losses.

The Azerbaijani side continued shelling on July 13 as well. The Azerbaijani armed forces fired 3 shells of 120 mm caliber mortars towards Chinari; one shell hit a house, while two landed in the yard, fortunately causing no casualties, reported the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, Shushan Stepanyan.

The Azerbaijani side has reported combat losses, with Azerbaijani media disseminating information regarding the death of 4 servicemen. On the Armenian side, 3 servicemen were injured by shrapnel, and 2 police officers conducting border service were also wounded. None of their lives are in danger, informed the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, Shushan Stepanyan.
