Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly to Take Place Tomorrow: Controversial Bill on the Agenda

According to the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd', an extraordinary session of the National Assembly will take place tomorrow, during which the controversial bill regarding amendments to the Republic of Armenia's 'Subsoil Code' will be on the agenda. In its July 10 issue, 'Zhoghovurd' reported that the discussion of the law had been postponed after its approval in the first reading. The reason for this delay was reported to be disagreements between Armenia's Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Lilia Shushanyan and MP Meri Galstyan from the 'My Step' faction.

Now, according to our information, after long and heated discussions, it has finally been possible to make amendments to the draft and present it for voting in the second reading. Furthermore, 'Zhoghovurd' learned that the 'My Step' faction of the National Assembly held a session on Friday, which was also attended by National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan. During the session, issues related to the 'Subsoil Code' were addressed.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed dissatisfaction that interpersonal relationships could lead to situations where even proposed bills are removed from the agenda. It is noteworthy that, among other changes, the law will grant subsoil use rights not for 50 years, as is currently the case, but for 25 years.
