We Can Reduce New Coronavirus Cases to 30-40 Per Day: Ara Babloyan
The number of new coronavirus cases in Armenia is decreasing due to the measures being implemented. If the efforts continue, we could reduce this number to 30-40 cases per day within two months. This was stated by the former chairman of the National Assembly, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Ara Babloyan, in an interview with NEWS.am Medicine.
“When we spoke on June 23, we had fluctuations in numbers around 500-700. The measures being taken have prevented the number from reaching 900 or 1000; instead, in recent days, we see fluctuations between 350-550. Of course, our goal should be to continue these measures both in outdoor areas and inside organizations and institutions. In that case, if we maintain our efforts, we could reduce the number to 30-40 on a daily basis within two months. We must continue the measures until the vaccine is available, and the preventive vaccination of the population begins,” he emphasized.
In response to a question about the possibility of a resurgence in the number of new cases, Babloyan noted that this could happen for two reasons. “One is if we relax preventive measures, a rise will immediately occur, which could have a very negative impact on future processes. The second reason could be that by creating new testing laboratories, we could increase the daily number of tests to 3000-4000. In that case, we would certainly be able to identify more cases, but this will not have negative implications; rather, it will provide an opportunity to clarify the number of infected and managing the identified cases easier,” he explained.
Addressing the preventive measures being implemented in the country, Ara Babloyan stated that they are necessary and that one cannot rely solely on the public's awareness. “We have seen from the experience of various developed countries that this does not yield the desired results, and those countries also decided to impose certain restrictions. Maintaining the approach that public health issues and economic development are closely interconnected, and you cannot have a developing country without a healthy population, I would suggest reviewing the following material, which answers many questions for both ordinary readers and medical specialists. This is an interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the U.S., titled ‘Half a Year into the New Coronavirus Pandemic’,” Babloyan noted.
