Sale of Red Book Animal Prevented
The Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Soil Inspection has reported that the sale of an illegally hunted animal listed in the Red Book has been prevented.
As a result of the cooperation between the Animal Control Division of the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Soil Inspection and the Talin Division of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, one case of illegal hunting of a Red Book animal was discovered and recorded on July 7.
M. P., a resident of the village of Lanjanik in the Shirak region, had hunted a representative of the 'Chaitakis' species, which is listed in the Red Book of Armenia, from a field adjacent to his village and attempted to organize its sale through the Internet, which was thwarted.
As a result of operational activities, the animal was located, seized, and transferred to a rehabilitation center. After successfully passing research and quarantine at 'Zoo Fauna Art' LLC, the red-listed Chaitakis will be released back into the wild.
An administrative case has been opened, and measures of accountability will be applied,” the issued statement said.
