Meat Production Volumes in Armenia Have Decreased. Programs Are Not Saving the Sector: 'Joghvorut'

The newspaper 'Joghvorut' reports that meat production volumes in Armenia have decreased in the first four months of this year. According to the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, in the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year, beef production volumes have decreased by 5.1 percent.

The same trend is observed in pork and sheep meat production; in the January-May period of this year, pork production volumes decreased by 4.8 percent, while sheep meat saw a decline of 4.7 percent. In contrast, poultry meat production volumes increased by 11.5 percent.

This indicates that the state support programs provided by the government are not saving the sector; on the contrary, meat production volumes are declining. It should also be noted that there has been a recorded decline of 10.1 percent in the production of sausages.

At the same time, it is worth mentioning that the livestock population in Armenia has increased. In 2017, the number of cattle was 655,800; in 2018, it decreased to 590,600; in 2019 it was 571,861, and in 2020, it slightly increased to 579,256. However, the volumes of beef, pork, and sheep meat production have decreased.
