Hayk Marutyan Visits Renovated Kindergartens

According to the construction and improvement program for 2020 by the Yerevan Municipality, renovation works are planned in 11 community kindergartens. Construction has already started in ten of them. The kindergartens included in the program have never been renovated since their founding. Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan got acquainted with the renovation process. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Yerevan Municipality.

“Last year, we planned a 1.5 billion dram program; unfortunately, it did not materialize due to competitive issues. We not only moved those funds to this year but added another 1 billion drams, and this year a total of 2.5 billion drams will be spent on the works. We are preparing to renovate 23 kindergartens: 11 through the municipality and 12 under a program implemented with the UN,” emphasized Mayor Marutyan.

The previous condition of the kindergartens is evident only from the walls. Everything has been demolished and rebuilt from scratch. The renovation program first involves changing the drainage systems and constructing entirely new and more comfortable toilets for children, which will be furnished with new furniture. The internal wiring will also be replaced during the renovations. New doors and windows will be installed in group rooms, hallways, and staircases, and kitchens will have new ventilation systems and furniture. Roofs will also be renovated.

This year, for the first time in the renovation program, buildings will be thermally insulated, which will significantly reduce gas and electricity costs and increase savings. Additionally, energy-efficient LED lighting will be installed in the kindergartens.

“Thermal insulation of the building is a very important component of the renovation that we have set as a mandatory requirement this year. This will not only ensure warmth for our children in winter but also save energy, and every saving is another job that the community can do for its residents,” highlighted the mayor.

The renovated community kindergartens will be new, colorful, bright, and warm.

To ensure that the kindergartens serve the children for as long as possible, the mayor urged the construction and technical supervision organizations to pay special attention to the quality of materials and workmanship.

The renovation of the kindergartens is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The municipality is currently discussing options to resolve the issue of children's attendance during the renovations.

“If we are renovating a kindergarten, then where should our children go? There are two solutions here. The first is that our children will not attend for those months and will wait for the completion of the renovations or, in the second case, we must somehow allocate our kids to other nearby kindergartens. This is a matter of choice that we need to discuss together with the parents,” said the mayor.

After the renovations, areas in some kindergartens will be expanded, allowing for new groups to be opened.

“The works are being done from scratch and we will ensure they are brought to the best condition possible, which will also enable us to increase the number of group rooms. For example, in 76 kindergartens, 8 more groups will be opened, allowing about 250 more children to attend kindergarten,” noted the mayor.

The city authorities assure that the kindergarten renovation program will continue in the coming years. “This is the beginning, and we have set as a goal that all kindergartens should be properly and qualitatively renovated. Wherever there are urgent issues, partial renovations will be done, but our main program is renovation so that the children can attend kindergartens worthy of Yerevan's residents and, as they grow up, have bright and good memories from their kindergartens,” emphasized Hayk Marutyan.
