A Woman Struck in the Head with a Beer Can During an Argument; Criminal Case Initiated
On July 9, 2020, at 22:40, the Shengavit Medical Center reported that a 44-year-old resident of Yerevan had sought medical assistance due to stab wounds.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated at the Yerevan Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia under Article 258 (hooliganism) Part 4 and Article 34-104 (attempted murder) Part 1 of the Criminal Code.
As a result of investigative actions and operational-search measures, it has been established that on the same day at approximately 22:20, a group of young people argued with a married couple in the courtyard of one of the buildings on Aragats Street, Yerevan, over pouring beer on a family dog. Residents of the buildings intervened in the dispute.
During the argument, the youths demonstrated blatant disrespect for society, grossly violating public order, and struck the woman participating in the altercation on the head with a glass beer bottle. They also assaulted her husband, inflicting blows on the residents of the mentioned building with their hands, feet, and bottles, causing bodily harm, and damaged the vehicles parked in the courtyard.
One of the participants in the argument, with an intent to unlawfully take a life, struck the aforementioned 44-year-old resident in the left side of the chest with a sharp cutting-piercing object, causing bodily harm.
Immediate investigative and procedural actions are underway, including an examination of the crime scene where blood-like traces, shattered beer bottle fragments, and a damaged vehicle have been discovered. Samples have been taken, and forensic medical, genetic, and technical examinations have been appointed. A knife and other offensive weapons have been seized.
On July 10, 2020, one participant, a 23-year-old resident of Aragatsotn Province, was arrested on suspicion of hooliganism. Measures are being taken to identify, locate, and present to the prosecuting authority the individuals involved in the alleged crime.
The preliminary investigation continues.
