The Detention Period of Gagik Khachatryan's Nephew Extended by Two Months

The detention period of Karen Khachatryan, the nephew of former Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan, has been extended by two months. This information was provided by Gor Abrahamyan, an advisor to the Armenian Prosecutor General.

Today, the Court of Appeal of Armenia granted the appeal submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office, overturning the decision of the District Court of Yerevan dated June 12, 2020. Consequently, the detention period for Karen Khachatryan, who is charged in a criminal case concerning abuse of office by official persons investigated by the National Security Service, has been extended by an additional two months.

It is important to recall that Karen Khachatryan is accused of committing significant embezzlement; however, he does not accept the charges against him. Gagik Khachatryan also holds the status of a defendant in the same criminal case, facing accusations of abuse of official position and significant embezzlement. Gagik Khachatryan has been in detention since August 30, 2019.
