Measures Are Being Taken to Return Armenian Citizens to Armenia

The Embassy of Armenia in Russia is aware of the issues faced by Armenian citizens currently housed in the temporary detention center for foreigners in Nizhny Novgorod and other cities in Russia, and is taking relevant steps to address them. This was reported by the Armenian Embassy in Russia.

In connection with information published in the Armenian media regarding citizens held at the center in Nizhny Novgorod, the Armenian Embassy in Russia has announced that appropriate measures are being taken to facilitate the return of Armenian citizens from this center to Armenia. The work in the field is coordinated by the office of the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Nizhny Novgorod.

All necessary measures are being undertaken to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Armenian citizens, and appropriate assistance is provided to them. Several working meetings with the leadership of the center have been organized. The Armenian Embassy in Russia has emphasized the willingness of the Armenian side to ensure the return of citizens through charter flights operated from Moscow upon completion of the paperwork process. Currently, efforts in this direction are ongoing.

It should also be noted that according to the laws of the Russian Federation, foreign citizens in these centers can only return to their country of origin with the accompaniment of representatives from the relevant migration authorities. The organization of this process has temporarily been impossible due to restrictions arising from the pandemic, including the absence of regular flights to Armenia, the self-isolation regime established in various regions of Russia, limitations on the transport of citizens from other regions to Moscow, as well as the temporary suspension of this function by the Russian migration authorities.
