Turkologist and Kurdish expert Karen Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook page: "In Azerbaijan, not only are the rivers drying up, but the lakes have also started to turn green. The foul odor from Lake Buyuk Shor has become a curse for the residents of the surrounding areas. The lake has begun to turn green since July 6 and is spreading more each day.
It has also been reported that it is emitting toxic gases and could become a cause of poisoning for the animal life in the region."
