Mkhitar Hayrapetyan Takes On the Role of Head of Armenia-Iran Friendship Group

Today, on July 8, by the decision of the National Assembly Council, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports Mkhitar Hayrapetyan assumed the leadership of the Armenia-Iran Friendship Group.

Prior to this, the group was led by Varazdat Karapetyan, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Governance, Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

"The fraternal relations between Armenia and Iran hold significant historical weight. Today, the economic component in the bilateral strong ties between our countries is notably substantial: the Islamic Republic of Iran ranks 6th among Armenia's foreign trade partners. However, our countries' educational, scientific, and cultural close cooperation can also play a significant role in these relations, for which both history and the current friendship provide a solid foundation. And of course, let us not forget about the Armenian community in Iran, which is one of the richest centers of the Armenian diaspora and is well represented in the Iranian parliament," noted Mkhitar Hayrapetyan at the end of the meeting.

Mkhitar Hayrapetyan also heads one of the four inter-parliamentary committees of the RA National Assembly - the Armenia-Cyprus Inter-Parliamentary Committee, as well as the Armenia-Greece Friendship Group.
