New Developments in the Suicide Case of Hayk Harutyunyan: A Lieutenant General Interrogated
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that a Lieutenant General Ararat Mahtesyan has been interrogated in the case of the suicide of former Armenian Police Chief Hayk Harutyunyan, who is accused in the case of the March 1 events.
Mahtesyan held the position of first deputy to Harutyunyan during the bloody events of March 1, 2008. In a conversation with journalists on the anniversary of Harutyunyan's death, he stated, 'I cannot say anything. A tragic feeling, that is all I can say. The rest I will say near the grave in a few days; I have something to say there.'
It is known that former Police Chief Hayk Harutyunyan committed suicide on September 24, 2019. In just under two months, it will be one year since the criminal case was initiated regarding his suicide, and many questions remain unanswered.
Furthermore, it was reported that psychological and psychiatric examinations have been appointed for the case on March 20 of this year. Additionally, various individuals have been invited for questioning, who have indicated that Harutyunyan had been depressed and distressed about the events surrounding him.
With the testimony of these and other witnesses, the investigative body is compiling all the materials and, as is customary, presenting them to experts; the examinations are a result of all of this. By assigning these examinations, the investigative body is attempting to break out of a deadlock. However, it should be noted that the conclusions of the appointed examinations are not yet available.
