The USA Provides $1 Million Support to Armenia in the Fight Against Corruption

The United States is providing $1 million in support to the Republic of Armenia to combat corruption. On June 23, a program titled "Technical Assistance to the Armenian Auditing Chamber" was launched during an online event.

The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has signed an interagency agreement with the Center for Audit Excellence of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to provide technical assistance, consulting, and training courses to Armenia's supreme auditing body, the Audit Chamber.

Through this program, the GAO will support the implementation of Armenia's 2018 Law on the Audit Chamber by guiding the adoption and maintenance of international auditing standards.

The U.S. Comptroller General and head of the GAO, Gene Dodaro, along with USAID's Chief Financial Officer, Reginald W. Mitchell, who had planned to visit Armenia before the COVID-19 crisis, joined via video conference with Armenia's Audit Chamber President Levon Yolyan, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy, and USAID Armenia Mission Director Deborah Grisez to mark the program's launch.

This is the second interagency agreement between the USAID Armenia office and the GAO’s Center for Audit Excellence. Under a previous agreement, the GAO conducted a needs assessment in the Armenian Audit Chamber to identify its strengths and weaknesses. The agenda set for this program is based on the recommendations from that needs assessment and aligns with the Armenian government’s strategy for public financial management reforms.
