11 People Arrested for Insulting Erdogan's Son-in-Law and Family on Social Media
Eleven people have been arrested for making offensive comments on social media about Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son-in-law, Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, and his family, according to Ermenihaber.
The comments were made on June 30 in the comments section of Albayrak's post on Twitter, where he announced the birth of his fourth child.
It has been reported that the identities of 19 users who posted the insults were identified during the investigation, and 11 of them have been successfully arrested.
The incident has been condemned by both pro-government and opposition politicians in Turkey. Erdogan also addressed the matter through a special video message, stating, “Legal regulations to coordinate the activities of social media in Turkey will be developed to prevent such incidents.”
