Prosecutor's Office Confirms Indictment Against Vladimir Gasparyan and Levon Yeranosyan
The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the indictment against former Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan, Deputy Chief of Police Levon Yeranosyan, and others, sending the case to the first instance court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan.
According to law enforcement, between 1997 and 2011, Vladimir Gasparyan, holding the positions of head of the Military Police Department and then Deputy Minister of Defense, engaged in large-scale embezzlement. Specifically, he allowed a serviceman to work as a driver for the brother of the third president, Serzh Sargsyan, instead of fulfilling his duties, while two other servicemen served as bodyguards for another brother of the former president, Alexander Sargsyan.
The Special Investigative Service claims that in exchange for these illegal services, the individuals received a total of 54 million drams from the state budget. In relation to this episode, former police chief Gasparyan has refused to testify.
“During the preliminary investigation, approximately 64 million was recovered, of which 54 million was related to funds returned by Alexander Sargsyan. Also included are recovered funds connected to the case of Vladimir Gasparyan’s daughter, who did not attend military service yet was paid. In this episode, over 8 million drams caused harm to the state and were returned during the investigation by the daughter,” said Khoren Mejlumyan.
Vladimir Gasparyan is charged with large-scale embezzlement, misappropriation, and abuse of official authority resulting in heavy consequences. Gasparyan denies the charges.
