‘Joghavorout’. Trade turnover volumes decreased by 10.8 percent

‘Joghavorout’ newspaper reports that the Statistical Committee of Armenia has published statistical data regarding the socio-economic situation for the months of January to May of this year. According to the data, Armenia's economic activity index has decreased by 3.9 percent compared to the same period last year. However, compared to April, the economic activity indicator increased by 13.3 percent.

It is noteworthy that industrial production volumes in January-May have increased by 2.4 percent compared to last year, while construction volumes have decreased by 23.4 percent over the year. However, in May, there was a significant increase of 112.9 percent compared to April.

In Armenia, trade turnover volumes have decreased by 10.8 percent, while inflation has been reported at 0.3 percent. According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, external trade turnover has also dropped by 11.2 percent in the first five months of this year, with exports declining by 8.1 percent and imports by 12.8 percent.

Of course, the reason for such a situation is again attributed to the pandemic and the state of emergency declared on March 16 that is still ongoing. Despite the lifting of restrictions in many sectors, it has already had adverse effects on the economy.
