Citizen Provided Taxi Services Knowing He Was Infected with Coronavirus; Investigation Launched

The Investigative Committee has initiated proceedings regarding a case of violating self-isolation rules and other restrictions on the right to free movement during the state of emergency. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

On June 20, 2020, a 68-year-old resident of Abovyan City submitted a sample for a 'covid 19' test at the 'Nork' Clinical Hospital, which returned a positive result on June 23.

Despite being aware of the mandatory self-isolation requirements, he violated these rules and other restrictions on free movement during the state of emergency. On June 24, 2020, the 68-year-old man provided taxi services and transported passengers using his vehicle.

As a result, on June 25, 2020, the Kotayk Division of the RA Police initiated a criminal case based on Part 1 of Article 277.1 of the RA Criminal Code (violating self-isolation or other restrictions on the right to free movement during a state of emergency). The case was sent to the Abovyan Investigation Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee on the same day and has been accepted for proceedings.

Investigative and procedural actions are ongoing to clarify all the circumstances of the case. The preliminary investigation is continuing.
