Draft Constitutional Amendments Will Not Be Sent to the President
During a meeting of the Permanent Committee on Legal Affairs, the main reporter of the draft, Vahagn Hovakimyan, informed that the draft amendments to the Constitution presented by the National Assembly will not be sent to the President of Armenia for signature after being accepted, but will instead be published directly by the President of the National Assembly.
“I must emphasize that there has rarely been a case in the constitutional and legal practice of Armenia where any official signs any text of the Constitution. Perhaps this has been due to the fact that the respective draft of the Constitution was accepted through a referendum at that time. But the logic is that the entry into force of the Constitution should not depend on the signature or publication by any subject,” said the head of the committee, Vladimir Vardanyan.
