MP Arpi Davoyan Appeals to the Human Rights Defender

Armenian National Assembly member Arpi Davoyan has appealed to the Human Rights Defender, indicating that she has observed online abusive and hate-filled postings regarding the Prime Minister's family, specifically concerning his children and wife, on social media platforms. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Human Rights Defender, Nune Hovsepyan, on her Facebook page.

She particularly noted, “The MP has informed that in order to identify those responsible for these actions and to hold them accountable, she has turned to the Armenian police and requested the attention of the Human Rights Defender on this issue.”

The Human Rights Defender has consistently emphasized that the targeting of a person's private and family life, as well as members of their family, is a reprehensible phenomenon, regardless of the individual involved. Any debate or discussion should take place in an atmosphere of solidarity and respect, excluding hate speech and degradation of dignity.

Once again, we clarify that the Human Rights Defender does not have the authority to impose sanctions on individuals, including coercive measures, nor does she have the jurisdiction to protect officials from citizens or to protect citizens in their relations with one another. Everyone is encouraged once more to study the provisions of the Constitutional Law on the Human Rights Defender.
