Ministry of Health Clarification on Dexamethasone

The Ministry of Health announces that in recent days, media outlets have reported on preliminary results from clinical studies conducted in Britain, indicating that treatment with dexamethasone could save the lives of severely ill COVID-19 patients. Subsequently, the ministry has received numerous reports that citizens are procuring the medication without a doctor's prescription and guidance.

According to clinical symptoms, the appropriateness of using the medication, the method of administration, and dosages are determined by the treating physician, based on the severity of the disease, contraindications, warnings, and the patient's reactions to the medication.

The ministry reminds that dexamethasone-containing medications are registered as prescription drugs; moreover, they have an immunosuppressive effect, which can lead to the activation of hidden infections or exacerbation of existing ones. Additionally, the use of these medications can result in serious side effects that require regular medical supervision.

Therefore, the use of dexamethasone-containing medications without a doctor's prescription can endanger a person's life and health. The Ministry of Health urges the public not to engage in self-medication and to follow medical advice during their treatment.
