Expressions Harmful to Armenia and Artsakh Removed from the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly Bureau Statement
“As a result of complex and tense negotiations, we have achieved a balanced document - the statement of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly Bureau.” This was stated by MP Gayane Abrahamyan on her Facebook page, providing details.
“This important and fundamental document reaffirms the commitment of the Eastern Partnership countries to the values underlying the initiative, highlighting the RIGHT to self-determination among other points. In this format, this is an unprecedented commitment, considering that it has been undertaken not only by European but also by Eastern Partnership countries, including Azerbaijan. I would like to note that we managed to remove from the preliminary text of the statement presented at the bureau meeting the expressions that significantly harmed the interests of Armenia and Artsakh, as well as to prevent unilateral attempts by the Azerbaijani delegation to present definitions regarding the Artsakh problem.”
The official statement of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly Bureau (which includes heads of delegations from the Eastern Partnership countries and representatives from the European Parliament) was issued ahead of an online meeting of EU leaders, EU member states, and Eastern Partnership (EP) leaders held on June 18.
I emphasize that a separate point in the statement also highlights the importance of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which outlines the framework for deepening the Armenia-EU partnership, supporting ongoing political and economic reforms in Armenia by the EU, as well as strengthening Armenia's role in maintaining REGIONAL SECURITY AND STABILITY.
