Ararat Mirzoyan Sends Letter to EC President David Sassoli Regarding the Anti-Armenian Statements of 3 EC MPs
The President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, announced on his Facebook page that he has sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, regarding the explicitly anti-Armenian statements made by 3 Members of the European Parliament.
“I quote a small section: ‘This statement is particularly unacceptable considering the current period in which the President and the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan are threatening to start a new war. It is notable that such statements from EU lawmakers can be used by Azerbaijan’s anti-democratic and militaristic officials as approval for the use of military force and unleashing aggression against the population of Artsakh. I would also like to add that we are concerned about the position of the co-rapporteur on Armenia, Bashesku, who is known for his close ties with the Azerbaijani leadership and has previously made controversial remarks regarding Armenians living in Romania. This raises the suspicion that Traian Bashesku is unable to distance himself from his previous affiliations and demonstrate a conscientious and inclusive approach to his current duties,’” wrote Ararat Mirzoyan.
