What is the difference between the Republican Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party? The Prime Minister explains
There has been much discussion about why the electoral bribery cases attributed to the Republican Party (RP) are not being revealed in the same way as those of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP). This was noted today, on June 17, during a Q&A session in the National Assembly by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“First of all, I want to remind you that there is a court decision regarding the ‘Zibiliks’ case after the revolution. Yes, I can agree that it has not been fully revealed, but there have been certain reasons for that. If we trust the investigation, and if the alleged crime is correct, I understand one thing through analysis: What is the difference between the Republican Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party?” said Pashinyan.
“In the case of the PAP, mainly one person's money was spent, and as a result of the spending of that money, there should have been accountability afterward about how that money was spent. In the case of the RP, everyone spent their corrupted money, and only the votes were accountable—whether I brought this many votes or not. The structure of the RP's corrupt system was different; everyone spent their stolen money, and therefore, no financial accountability was provided,” Pashinyan said.
At the same time, he found the question acceptable: “I accept that criticism—why is the RP's electoral bribery system not being exposed? Yes, we need to set a task for our law enforcement officers, and within the framework of this case, we should delve deep enough until everything is revealed. Corruption must be uprooted from this land by the last root, and we will do it.”
